You can attach an outgoing SMS as a Related List to the object record. This can be done in two ways:
•Create a look-up relationship for SMS History – for Objects other than Leads & Contacts
•Configure a Related List – for Leads and Contacts
Create Look-up Relationship with ‘SMS History’ Object – for objects other than Leads & Contacts
Follow these steps:
Step 1 - Go to Setup > App Setup > Create > Objects.
Step 2 - Click SMS History.
Step 3 - Go to Custom Fields & Relationships.
Step 4 - Click New.
Step 5 - Choose the field type
Go to Data Type > Look Up Relationship and click Next.
Step 6 - Choose the related object
Choose the object – Standard or Custom – for which you want to relate the SMS History. In the example below, Account has been chosen.
Step 7 - Enter the label and name for look-up field
Click into the Field Name, and the Field Label content will copy into the Field Name. Ensure that the Child Relationship Name is set to SMS_History.
Step 8 - Establish field-level security for reference field
Go to Field-Level Security for Profile, then check the Visible and Read Only boxes.
Step 9 - Add reference field to Page Layouts
Choose Page Layout Name and click Next.
Step 10 - Add custom related lists and click Save
The related list is now ready and has been added to the Accounts Object.
Configure Related List – for Leads & Contacts
These are the steps for Leads:
1.Go to Setup > App Setup > Customize > Contacts > Page Layout.
2.Edit the Contact Layout.
3.Click Related Lists.
4.Drag-and-drop smsMagic into the Licenses section below.
5.Click on Save.
